Gresham: I hate to lose

Posted by hobsonschoice1 on April 23, 2010 – 6:26 pm

Bengals tight ends coach Jon Hayes was right.

Jermaine Gresham is a big man. The 6-5, 265-pounder towered over head coach Marvin Lewis for the obligatory jersey photo at Thursday’s news conference at Paul Brown Stadium.

As he sat down at the news conference table, someone said, “The center of attention.” He said, “No, I’m just a piece of it.”

After a meet and greet with a VIP draft party of team sponsors and suite holders, a relaxed Gresham met the media in a dress shirt, powder blue tie, and a Bengals baseball cap.

“I hate to lose,” he said.

Asked if he’s talked to quarterback Carson Palmer yet, Gresham said he hadn’t but he could know why Palmer will like him.

“Easy to find. Big target,” he said. “A catching machine.”

Just love this pick, before the draft, I thought we should have went somewhere else with it. But upon really looking at him watching some clips on the internet and TV of his play. It seems he is a good bit farther along on his blocking than what was being reported. He was considered to be a spread TE by most reports. But he appears to be an OK blocker already. We can make him better. THe important thing to me is he spent a good amount of time playing TE with his hand on the ground. Which is what gives most of the modern TEs so much trouble coming into the league. What if Chase Coffman comes along and can play H-back this season, and we sign Kelly. Can anyone say 2 TE Singleback. Very hard formation for D to match up too. You could be power running or sending out 5 receivers.

“I hate to lose”?? Wow..That’s profound as if there are a bunch of guys in uniform thinking, “Gee, I hope we lose every game this year. I want to go home with my tail between my legs and never get that bonus money.”
I hate to lose.. Well REALLY? I would have never thought the Bengals would draft a guy at number one who hates to lose..
I just hope Jermain catches and blocks better than he comes up with cliché’s.
